A Simple RSS Reader

Okay gang… life is getting simpler every day!

Some of you have reported having problems getting Bloglines to work.  I suspect that part of the problem stems from firewall blockage, but whatever the case, I have another alternative for you, and one I actually like even better than Bloglines.

I don’t intend to trash my Bloglines reader at this point, but a Simple RSS Reader that you can download and install works even quicker than Bloglines, and gives you better alerts than Bloglines does.  It literally took me all of 5 minutes to download and install Simple RSS Reader, and it sits in my system tray, monitoring all of the feeds I care to load in to it (not just my own blogs). 🙂

So… if you have had problems with Bloglines, or would just like to investigate a very simple RSS Reader that will notify you of any new posts to our blog (or any others that you want to have it monitor) then go to this web site and download the RSS Reader.  Trust me… the instructions for downloading and installing this little utility are so simple an 8 year old could do it!

Go to http://www.rssreader.com/rssreader.htm

Click on the Download button after you read what RSS Reader is and does, and it will take you to the instruction page to complete the download and installation.

To keep it simple, I downloaded the rssreader.exe option (as opposed to the .zip file option) and saved the application in my downloads folder… as soon as it finished downloading (which took about 5 seconds), I clicked “OPEN” and ran the installation.  That took another 10 seconds… then I went through the “Tools” and “Options”, customizing things like “How I want RSS Reader to Notify Me” (Sound, pop up, etc.), “How Often I want the Reader to check for new posts…”  (I set mine to check my blogs every 10 minutes.)

By the way… RSS Reader actually (set at 10 minutes) notifies me before the Bloglines reader does in every case.. so if you’re wanting a faster reader… this is the ticket.

After finishing setting the options, I added my Blog URL, and presto… it popped right up… and there were my last 7 or 8 posts.

In case you decide to install this little utility, here again is the URL you need to copy and paste in to the “Add Feeds” section of the Reader:  http://ebawebs.com/blog/ebawebs/feed

Copying and pasting that in to the pop up box that comes up when you click “Add” will immediately add our feed to your monitored feeds.

And that’s it.  It’s just that simple.

I’d be interested to hear your comments on the ease of download and installation of this new RSS Reader, if you choose to use it.

Hopefully, you have one or the other running to notify you of new posts to this blog, because I have a TON (and I’m not exagerating one bit) of information and news to send your way over the next three weeks.

Today is my birthday, so my wife is not letting me work a full day today.  I don’t know what she has up her sleeve.. but I’ve been instructed to “Get off that computer” today… so I’d better listen! 🙂

Let me know what you think of the new RSS Reader.  Here’s that link again: http://www.rssreader.com/rssreader.htm

Have a great day!
